Team Fortress 2 Gets Update That Significantly Reduces Memory Usage on Linux

Team Fortress 2, the online multiplayer game developed by Valve with support for all available platforms, including PC, Linux, and Mac OS X, and that’s constantly in the top ten titles played every day on Steam, has been updated once more.

Team Fortress 2 is the perfect example of a free-to-play game done right. There is a huge community of gamers, and nobody is ever upset that you can buy stuff for the game. Granted, most of the stuff is just cosmetic, and it doesn’t affect the gameplay, but the balancing is also just right.

Being such a popular game means that Valve needs to constantly adjust it and work on it, hence the large number of releases. Most of them focus on various small changes and on plugging the exploits that are being used. No matter how good the developers are at finding these exploits, the users are always better at it.

Some improvements for Mac and Linux users

According to the changelog, some random client crashes related to memory exhaustion for Mac clients have been fixed, the reduced memory usage on Mac and Linux clients has been reduced, the LBTF2 6v6 Season 12 and LBTF2 Highlander Season 3 tournament medals have been added, the ability to restore festivized weapons via the context menu has been made possible, the Australium Minigun and Australium Scattergun materials have been fixed, and many more updates have been implemented.

Team Fortress 2 features a large number of multiplayer modes, such as Capture the Flag, Control Point, Payload, Arena, King of the Hill, and more. Players can choose one of the nine classes: Scout, Soldier, Pyro, Demoman, Heavy, Engineer, Medic, Sniper, and Spy.

Check out the official announcement for Team Fortress 2 for more details about the update. As usual, users just have to start Steam and wait for the game to update.
