Wine 1.9.1 Adds More Shader Model 4 Instructions, MinGW ARM Toolchain Support

The development cycle of the next major Wine release continues today with build 1.9.1, which is the second milestone in the Wine 1.9 Dev series, bringing some interesting new features, as well as over 30 fixes to support more Windows apps and games.

Alexandre Julliard made the announcement for Wine 1.9.1 earlier today, January 9, 2016, a release that introduces support for the MinGW ARM toolchain and debug registers on 64-bit (x86-64) hardware architectures, additional Shader Model 4 instructions, several deferred fixes, and multiple bugfixes.

Looking at the changelog, which we’ve attached at the end of the article for reference, we can notice that Wine 1.9.1 fixes issues for the Geoplan-Geospace, Internet Explorer 3.01, relog.exe, Before You Know It, Stars! 2.60b, OCCT Perestro├»ka, Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2, KODAK Share Button App, and iNode 3.6 software.

More Windows apps and games now work with Wine

Moreover, the Wine developers managed to fix issues for some more Windows applications, among which we can mention wineconsole, EA Origin, AkelPad 4.8.4, Visual Basic 6, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) Backup/Restore Test Tool, VSS Agent and ‘makeappx’ tool from Windows SDK 8.1, UFile, as well as the PhysX 9.15.0428 installer.

Among the Windows games that have received fixes in Wine 1.9.1, we can mention Clones, 3D Ultra Pinball Thrillride, SuperTux 0.3.5a, The Forest, Saints Row 2, the 64-bit StarCraft II v3.0 client, Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD, Sonic Generations, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and LEGO Mindstorms EV3.
