Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 Might Be Delayed for One Day Due to a Unity 8 Security Bug

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu QA team has managed to finish the testing of the Release Candidate image of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 update and has concluded that two issues need be fixed before the final release gets out.

The issues are affecting the QtMir and Unity 8 components, but the good news is that they’re working on a fix for both of them, which should soon land in the repositories, so Ubuntu Phone users should not worry.

A final Release Candidate build will also be generated this weekend, which Ubuntu QA will thoroughly test first thing on Monday, January 25. Therefore, the final release of Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 might be delayed for one day, until January 28, 2016.

“OTA-9 candidate image testing has finished – we now have some bad news and good news. The bad part is that QA found two blocking issues we decided to fix before releasing the update,” said Łukasz Zemczak. “This should delay us up to one day maximum.”

No exciting landings for OTA-10

On the other hand, the OTA-10 update has gotten only a new version of the ubuntu-system-settings-online-accounts package today to fix some bugs. After the OTA-9 release, we should see more interesting landings for the next major update for Ubuntu Touch.

Other than that, the Ubuntu Touch team has managed to update the release schedule for the upgrades so that it can be in sync with the latest changes that have happened lately. Also, they plan on getting rid of all the emulator issues, finally!

See you again on Monday for more news on the progress of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 software update for Ubuntu Phone devices. Until then, we wish you all a great weekend.
