You Can Now Install Antergos Linux with ZFS Thanks to the New Cnchi Installer

After being in development for quite some time now, Cnchi 0.14 finally reached maturity this past weekend, and it looks like it comes with a significant number of new features, among which we can mention Beta support for the ZFS file system in the Automatic Installation Mode.

Yes! You’ve heard that right, it is now possible to install the Antergos Linux operating system with the ZFS file system, and you don’t even need to do anything about it. Just tell Cnchi on which drive you want to install the Arch Linux-based distribution, and it will automatically format and configure ZFS for you.

“ZFS can be great and is suitable for many use-cases. However, in order to take full advantage of the features provided by ZFS, you will need to take time to do some research and learn about it. We do not recommend using ZFS if you are a beginner and/or don’t have time to learn how it works,” developers explained.

Antergos 2016.02.21 ISO out now, Cnchi 0.16 coming soon

The inclusion of ZFS support for new installations in the Cnchi 0.14 installer is a pretty big move for the Antergos project, and its developers are expecting to see a mass adoption of the distribution in the coming months. Besides ZFS support, Cnchi 0.14 includes numerous other small improvements, tweaks, and bugfixes.

A complete changelog is available on the official announcement page (link above), but the Antergos devs have already teased users with a sneak peek at what’s coming in the next major version of the Cnchi installer, build 0.16, which might be released in April. In the meantime
