Despite the fact that the main, official Manjaro Linux 16.02 flavors have not yet been announced, Manjaro Linux 16.02 Cinnamon Edition launches today with the long-term supported Linux 4.1 kernel and some of the latest open-source software projects, among which we can notice LibreOffice 5.1, Mozilla Firefox 44.0, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.6.0, and GIMP 2.8.16.
Prominent features of Manjaro Linux 16.02 Cinnamon Edition include support for installing desktop settings via packages, two new GTK+ themes, Vertex Maia and Vertex Maia Square, specifically designed for the Cinnamon desktop environment to match perfectly the Maia icon theme, as well as numerous under-the-hood improvements and new tools (see above for details).
“Recent development at Manjaro Linux is taking the rolling release model a step further by now delivering all desktop settings via packages,” says Bernhard Landauer in the release announcement. “Like that users will have the option to update to the latest stage of development, even in regards of styling and desktop configuration, at any time if they wish.”
The latest Cinnamon 2.8.6 is present
Among the included utilities, we can mention Manjaro Welcome, Manjaro Printer, Manjaro Settings Manager, Manjaro User Guide, Calamares, Thus and CLI installers. Other highlights include Pamac and Yaourt package managers, Isousb, GParted partition editor, Baobab disk usage analyzer, Pragha music player, VLC Media Player, Hexchat IRC client, and Pidgin instant messenger.
Best of all, Manjaro Linux 16.02 Cinnamon Edition ships with the latest Cinnamon 2.8.6 desktop environment, which, of course, provides users with the Nemo 2.8.6 file manager and all of its core components, all of them being up to date.
