Nautilus 3.20 Beta 1 Removes the Bookmark Manager, Adds a More Robust Search

We have managed to get our hands on the internal release notes for Nautilus 3.20 Beta 1, and we can tell you that the changes are interesting. Among them, you’ll notice the removal of the bookmark manager, the reorganization of the shortcuts, a more robust search, and the addition of preferences for the “Delete Permanently” and “Create Link” menu items.

Furthermore, there are now new search filtering and search popover, the separation of the preferences for local and remote searches, support for styling the Nautilus window differently than other apps, a revamped preferences window, as well as better icons padding and a new zoom level.

“With a big effort of the previous main maintainer Cosimo Cecchi who we asked for help, and the design review of Allan, we managed to make the change preserving the padding for zoom levels but improving the sizing of the label and thumbnails,” says Carlos Soriano. “So we effectively didn’t introduce any change that could affect previous users.”

Different view type settings are now allowed for search and normal, users can open the “Other Locations” side pane entry in a new tab or window, the operations popover can be navigated using a keyboard, and the search limit has been set by default to a maximum of five years.

The sorting preference has been removed

Among other interesting features of Nautilus 3.20 Beta 1, we can mention the removal of the sorting preference as users can now use the View menu for that, and the fact that the icon of operations cancelation will change when a certain operation is complete.

Last but not least, jp2 images will no longer crash Nautilus. As expected, the first Beta build is distributed as part of the GNOME 3.20 Beta 1 desktop environment, which might be available in the repositories of various GNU/Linux distributions.
