Ubuntu Kylin 16.04 LTS Gets Its First Beta Build, Brings a New Login Interface

Just like the rest of the participants in this first Beta release of Xenial Xerus, Ubuntu Kylin 16.04 LTS Beta 1 inherits all the core components and software updates from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, especially the new Linux 4.4.2 kernel, which is a long-term support (LTS) release.

Besides a significant number of under-the-hood changes and updates to most of the libraries and packages, this milestone also adds new versions of most of the Ubuntu Kylin specific packages, such as ubuntukylin-theme 1.5.0, ubuntukylin-default-settings 1.3.12, ubuntu-kylin-software-center 1.3.7, youker-assistant 2.0.6, and indicator-china-weather 2.1.4.

“We are glad to announce the Release of Ubuntu Kylin 16.04 (codename XenialXerus) Beta 1. In this pre-release, we have fixed many internationalization and localization bugs in Ubuntu itself and bugs in software written by the Ubuntu Kylin team,” reads the release notes.

Introducing the Ubuntu Kylin greeter

Highlights of the Ubuntu Kylin 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) Beta 1 release include the addition of a new package called kylin-greeter, which provides a new login interface based on LightDM and unity-greeter, but featuring the Ubuntu Kylin style, as well as a new lockscreen for the Unity 7 users. This interface is used by default in Ubuntu Kylin.
